NFL 2014 Week 2 Predictions

Week 2 Predictions
Lions +3 over Panthers, 23-19
-Derek Anderson was smoke and mirrors, and the Lions are good enough to at least get this close. I still don’t trust the Panthers to be able score at a level to keep up in this one.

Fins -1 over Bills, 21-17
-I wouldn’t put much stock in this one because the energy should be good at home with all their good news. But it is EJ Manuel against my boy Tannehill, and we know how I am picking that.

Jags +5 over Ethnic Slurs, 16-17
-Ugh, what a *fantastic* game to watch. The Jags are feisty and at one point RG3 was averaging 4 yards a pass last week. I’ll give the points a go.

Titans -3.5 over Cowboys, 27-17
-The Cowboys actively do not want to win.

Cards -3 over Giants, 21-14
-The Giants are bad. The Cards are scrappy. And Fitz will have more than 22 yards.

Saints -7 over Browns, 34-13
-Saints aren’t losing two in a row and the Browns used up all their tricks last week. We also know the Steelers aren’t that good now, so the Saints are a strong play.

Pats -3 over the Viks, 27-10
-With no Peterson, this should be a walk.

Falcons +5 over Bengals, 28-31
-With no Geno, I am taking the points in a shootout

Seahawks -6 over Chargers, 31-17
-10 days rest? Same time zone? Yes please.

Raiders +4.5 over Texans, 20-21
-I’ll take my boy Derek Carr at home as a dog versus Ryan Fitzpatrick on the road.

Packers -8 over Jets, 35-9
-This is delicious. Even better than Seahawks/Chargers. No way Packers go 0-2.

Chiefs +13 over Broncos, 24-33
-Wow crazy crazy. That’s a lot of points. I mean, the Broncos are going to win, but….13 points!

Colts -3 over the Eagles, 28-24
-No way Andrew Luck is going 0-2. The Eagles can’t start slow again and expect to win. I think we also see a lot of Ahmad Bradshaw over Trent Richardson, which is good for the offense and team.

I am not touching the Rams/Bucs game because I think both teams are terrible. And Bears/49ers depends if those receivers play or not.

NFL 2013 Week 12 Predictions

Panthers -4.5 over Dolphins, 26-14
-A lot of letdown potential, but they should handle the Dolphins.

Jags +10.5 over Texans, 14-17
-The Texans don’t get 10 points over anyone right now.

Vikings +4.5 over Packers, 20-21
-Tolzien makes terrified.

Ravens -3.5 over Jets, 20-11
-Ravens are a better team, the Jets are mostly smoke and mirrors.
-Strategic Eliminator Pick

Chargers +4.5 over Chiefs, 23-24
-Just because they play teams close every single time.

Lions -9.5 over Bucs, 31-21
-MEGATRON.

Colts +3.5 over Cards, 20-19
-Andrew Luck for the rest of his career, when given points, is going to be an automatic play for me. It just became a rule.

Giants PK over Cowboys, 37-34
-Oh boy.

Patriots +2.5 over Broncos, 31-30
-Broncos are probably the safter bet, but I’m going with a combination of “Brady is 9-4 versus Manning, the Pats don’t lose at home, the Pats don’t lose two in a row, the Pats are insulted to be home dogs” kicking in for this game.

49ers -4.5 over Ethnic Slurs, 20-13
-Damn, I can’t pick against the 49ers this week because they play the other team I think the public overvalues. Kaep might actually have a good passing day here. This might be painful to watch.
-Best Eliminator Pick

NFL 2013 Week 11 Predictions

Eagles -4 over Ethnic Slurs, 27-21
-Foles and Desean Jackson are awesome plays here in weekly leagues.

Cards -9.5 over Jags, 24-13
-Is it safe to guarantee a defensive touchdown? Well, I’m doing it anyways.

Bengals -6 over Browns, 20-10
-Bengals are limping but still a decent team. I think.

Lions -1 over Steelers, 35-14
Hasn’t happened since 1955, but it is happening this year. Lions win in the Steel City. Megatron goes OFF.
-Strategic Eliminator Pick.

Chargers -1 over Dolphins, 27-20
-Chargers are the better team. Also, they haven’t recently lost two linemen to bullying issues.

Giants -4.5 over Packers, 24-14
-Weird. But I guess this is where I am going?

Seahawks -12 over Vikings, 30-9
-Struggling to see any scenario where the Vikings can win. Or come close. Or should even show up.
-Best Eliminator Pick.

Saints -3.5 over 49ers, 31-16
-Saints aren’t losing this game at home. And 49ers aren’t that great. And Brees has a monstrous day.

Chiefs +9.5 over Broncos, 27-24
-Chiefs are ready to go, they have all these exciting plays ready to go that they’ve been hoarding, and they are going to throw everything in the world at Peyton’s knees/ankles.

Patriots +1.5 over Panthers, 24-16
-Pats will struggle to get 24, but that 24 will be more than the Panthers can muster. Plus the Panthers get the “week after someone plays the Seahawks or Niners they are too beat up to compete physically” after effect.

NFL 2013 Week 9 Predictions

Bengals -3 over Dolphins, 27-20
-I like the Fins, but this probably ends the competitive portion of their season. Mike Wallace would normally take advantage the Bengals being without Leon Hall, but that would require Mike Wallace to be conscious and try.

Falcons +7.5 over Panthers, 26-27
-Panthers win, but 7.5 is about a half point too much.

Cowboys -9.5 over Vikings, 31-13
-I am comfortable with laying almost 10 points with Tony Romo, I am comfortable with laying almost 10 points with Tony Romo…..

Saints -4.5 over Jets, 30-10
-A line I don’t understand, but will embrace.
-Best Eliminator Pick

Titans -3.5 over Rams, 24-16
-Titans are a tough little team, and the Rams aren’t nearly as good as they almost looked Monday night.
-Strategic Eliminator Pick

Chiefs -3.5 over Bills, 17-10
-After 6 straight covers, the Chiefs have dropped 2 in a row. That is breaking now, and the Chiefs get a half dozen sacks.

Chargers +1 over Ethnic Slurs, 27-23
-Yes please. How are the Slurs favored here?

Raiders over Eagles, 26-11
-Man it makes me pained to choose Pryor for anything but a tattoo artist recommendation, but I’m doing it here. Yes I predicted 11 points.

Seahawks -15 over Bucs, 38-16
-Schiano fired, no question. I like Glennon, but this might be embarrassing.

Ravens -3 over Browns, 23-17
-A “we need this” team versus a “it would be nice” team.

Patriots -7 over Steelers, 26-13
-Pats are winning winnable games, the Steelers are losing winnable games. Pretty clear to me.

Colts -2 over Texans, 24-13
-2? 2?! 2! Take it! Run!

Packers -7.5 over Bears, 31-20
-Too many injuries to overcome, and Rodgers is in 2006 Brady mode (And Nelson/Boykins is still better than Caldwell/Doug Gabriel).

NFL 2013 Week 6 Predictions

Lions -2.5 over Browns, 27-23
-The Lions, assuming Calvin plays, are a much better team than Cleveland. The Browns have a legit defense, but can't score with Detroit.

Staying away from bad-bad matchups in NYJ-PIT and PHI-TB, and the uncertainty over Peterson's status for CAR-MIN makes me want to be away from that either.

Bengals -7.5 over Bills, 30-6
-Thad Lewis? Should be a romp, even with Byrd's return to Buffalo's secondary.
-Best Eliminator Pick

Raiders +10 over Chiefs, 17-26
-Should be an easy win, but the Chiefs probably shouldn't be laying this many points against anyone. If they cover, it will be because of defensive or special team TDs.

Rams +7.5 over Texans, 23-24
-Way too many points. A pure upset wouldn't surprise me here.

Packers -3.5 over Ravens, 31-22
-The Ravens continue to have injuries mount, and I don't think they can score with Green Bay anyways.

Jags +27.5 over Broncos, 17-30
-A win, just not a romp. Justin Blackmon has a big game. Some guy named Manning does too, but I don't think anyone owns him in fantasy though.

Seahawks -13.5 over Titans, 27-12
-No Locker, the Fitzpatrick rule is in effect. Seattle's DEF/ST is a great play.

Pats -2.5 over Saints, 34-30
-Saints aren't the same on the road in colder weather, and the Pats don't lose two in a row. That simple. If the Pats lose, I fully anoint the Saints as my favorite in the NFC and probably overall and finally readjust my thinking of the Pats as an elite team. I admit I am borderline on that topic already.

Cowboys -5.5 over Ethnic Slurs, 31-13
-Is there a reason this is in the Vegas zone and not a full 7-9 point line? Just RGIII respect? Oh well, take it and run. The Washington defense is horrible and the Cowboys are a competent football team with an explosive offense.
-Strategic Eliminator Pick

Colts -1.5 over Chargers, 30-24
-Probably a good game, but the start of Andrew Luck dominating in prime time games.

NFL 2013 Week 4 Predictions

Ravens -3 over Bills, 20-14
-It seems the Bills aren’t good.

Bengals -5 over Browns, 27-19
-I am pretty sure the Bengals are good, and the Browns just beat an also bad Vikings team and we are about to overvalue them and Trent Richardson’s Ewing theory.
-Strategic Eliminator Pick

Seahawks -2.5 over Texans, 24-13
-Seahawks giving less than 2.5 over a mediocre team with Matt Schaub and an over the hill Arian Foster/dinged up Andre Johnson? Hell yes.

Colts -8.5 over Jaguars, 30-13
-Easiest pick. Luck could pile up stats like crazy here.
-Best Eliminator Pick

Vikings +3.5 over Steelers, 20-17
-I’m just taking the points and Peterson. Steelers shouldn’t be favored under any circumstances.

Titans -3 over Jets, 20-12
-I still don’t particularly like Jake Locker, but the overall team talent here is really different. And 2-1 just screams “regression” to me.

Cardinals +2.5 over Bucs, 17-16
-Glennon versus Peterson/Matheiu.

Raiders +3.5 over Ethnic Slurs, 20-17
-I am taking any and all points against the Ethnic Slurs this season.

Cowboys -2 over Chargers, 27-24
-Cowboys could actually win a game they should, putting a pretty strong hold on their division by week 5 (strangely). I mean, I think the Cowboys are capable of this.

Pats +3 over Falcons, 31-28
-Taking the Pats for me isn’t automatic, though it is close. When the Pats are getting points, however, that is pretty automatic. As much as the Pats aren’t whole right now, the Falcons really aren’t whole. And I think Gronk returning changes a LOT.

Saints -6.5 over Fins, 38-30
-So let’s talk Tannehill. I really love his evolution. He has shown everything about developing into an elite talent. The game winning drive against Atlanta was picture perfect. So I have high hopes for this guy…..but not this week. The Saints are a far more legit 3-0 than Miami, as much as I think both find their way into the post season. The Saints found their scoring vibe last week, and won’t let up in this one. Also, good luck covering Jimmy Graham right now.

NFL 2013 Week 2 Predictions

Chargers +8.5 over Eagles, 20-27
-That’s just a lot of points to cover.

Ravens -6.5 over Browns, 24-16
-Brandon Weeden involved? Brandon Weeden involved.
-Best Eliminator Pick

Texans -10 over Titans, 27-13
-Titans aren’t good. Jake Locker is quickly joining a group that needs to get together for drinks and enjoy their starts while they can. (Weeden, Locker, Ponder, Gabbert, and captain of the group, Josh Freeman).

Rams +6 over Falcons, 24-20
-Injuries man, injuries. The Rams are legit anyways. Daryl Richardson is a sneaky play this week. I am playing him over Gore in two leagues.

Pack -6.5 over Ethnic Slurs, 31-20
-Strongly under consideration for my Eliminator pick of the week. Based on what we saw last week, and the fact that there is zero chance Aaron Rodgers is letting them go 0-2, this should be an easy win for GB.

Cowboys +3.5 over Chiefs, 22-24
-The Cowboys lose painfully in the last minute, but it is good enough to cover.

Bears -6 over Vikings, 27-16
-The secret is out…the Vikings aren’t very good.

Saints -3.5 over Bucs, 34-17
-What games were everyone watching last week for this to be a 3.5 point line? The Saints beat a good Falcons team…and the Bucs got humiliated by the Jets. This could be a romp.

Lions -2 over Cards, 37-24
-I actually have respect for how well the Cards played last week, but I don’t know if that is repeatable, especially if Fitz is limited. The Lions on the other hand are this good, and could have scored 60 points last week if not for stupid issues and random events.
-Strategic Eliminator Pick

Raiders -6 - Jags +6, eww. That’s it, no pick, just an icky feeling. They should black this game out on ESPN’s scrolling bottom line.

Giants +4.5 over Broncos, 31-30
-Just a feeling.

Seahawks -3 over 49ers, 27-19
-More than a feeling.

Bengals -7 over Steelers, 31-10
-Emotionally invested. They are my AFC pick after all. Plus, you know, the Steelers are bad AND hurt.

NFL 2013 Week 1 Predictions

Pats -9.5 over Bills, 34-16
-I'm not in any elimination leagues week 1, but this would be the pick. Bills only have two QBs on the roster and both are rookies. NE probably looks great and also has a chance to work out some kinks.
-Best eliminator pick

Seahawks -3 over Panthers, 30-17
-Why is this only 3.5 again? One team was this close to a Super Bowl last year and only improved, and the other retained Ron Rivera, lost their best DB in a bad secondary, and still hasn't added a second WR. Does Cam make them frisky? Absolutely. Do they win this game? No chance in hell.

Bengals +3.5 over Bears, 24-20
-I foresee a lot of 4 point victories for the Bengals this year. That's a compliment, I swear! I actually like this Bengals team, and while I have historically been a Bears supporter, they are in transition and the Bengals in ascension. Plus I want to see if Cutler can play well or if Brandon Marshall is even fully healthy. Geno Adkins should dominate a bad Bears OLine here.

Browns -1 over Fins, 24-21
-I have both these teams pegged for strong, developmental years at or just above .500. But the Browns seem to be just a little further along. Norv seems to have the offense lined up to be much better and the Dolphins' is still in the exploratory stage. Haden erases Wallace and the Browns win behind a workman performance from Richardson.

Lions -5 over Viks, 27-16
-My two big "last year's results were skewed, this year's squad will regress/progress toward the mean" franchises, and they happen to meet in week 1. I wouldn't be showing confidence in my own analysis if I didn't take the Lions here. A. Who covers Megatron? B. Christian Ponder is still being allowed to play Quarterback, right?

Can the Viks just go for a Carson Palmer-like trade for Philip Rivers and make everyone happy?

Colts -9.5 over Raiders, 31-13
-Yup. TY Hilton baby. The Colts are getting a chance here to tweak their revamped defense in a mock warmup for their schedule. They will need to use the time well.
-Most strategic eliminator selection

Chiefs -3.5 over Jags, 23-7
-So Vegas must think we all just pick by the record last year. Well, while the records say these teams were similar, the eye test shows something different. KC is taking its six Pro Bowlers and new coach into this game, while Jax still has Blaine Gabbert. Questions?

Saints -3 over Falcons, 37-31
-Falcons overachieved last year, Saints underachieved, they were close even at that point, and the Saints are vastly improved on defense. I mean, that isn't staying much because adding me at safety would have improved them. Kenny Vaccaro should do even better than me though: I think he will be a special safety. Even a ten spot jump in defense will propel them to 11 wins. They start on that path right here at home by winning a shootout with the Falcons who are limited by a hurt Roddy White. Also, as unpopular as this statement will be, I think this is the start of underperforming seasons by aging Ste-Jax and Tony Gonzalez.

Bucs -3.5 over Jets, 23-6
-I don't like the Bucs. Let's make that really clear. But, The J-E-T-S Jets are really B-A-D. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jets don’t score.

Titans +7.5 over Steelers, 16-20
-Steelers probably still win but I don't see many blowouts for them this year, even at home. I don't like the Titans much either, but the Steelers have real issues.

Packers +4.5 over 49ers, 33-24
-The 49ers' defense showed cracks at the end of last year, and I can't imagine the Packers didn't spend all off season figuring out how to stop the running QBs of the league. The Packers have the making of a top 10 defense at least and that more than anything else propels them to a win here. Plus, Aaron Rodgers is a tough, competitive, proud son of a gun and I don’t know how he doesn’t take offense to what happened last year.

Rams -4.5 over Cards, 23-17
Bradford starts off his surprisingly solid year with a thorough win over the Cards, who may be decent this year but haven't gelled yet. Givens starts his surprise breakout season amidst his more fêted offensive compatriots.

Cowboys -3 over Giants, 33-27
-Whatever the over is here, take it. I stand by my pick of the Giants to win this division, but right now the Cowboys are (somehow) the more cohesive group. They are healthy, and know their identity. The Giants have questions at RB and WR with new faces/situations/injury concerns. So take Dallas in a high scoring affair.

Eagles +3.5 over Ethnic Slurs, 23-21
-This is pretty much a stay away. But, first, RG3 has to take some time to get acclimated and get his feet wet. Second, Chip Kelly's offense, regardless of whether or not it is successful long term, will probably surprise its first few opponents. So a narrow victory and definitely take the points.

Texans -3.5 over Chargers, 27-10
-The Chargers are going to be BAD. Texans may sit Foster though if they build a quick lead, so I wouldn't even start him. I expect the offense to be a decent mess organizationally for the Bolts, and the defense to show its lack of talent overall.

2013 NFL Playoff Predictions and Awards

Playoff Picture:
NFC Seeds: 1. Packers, 2. Saints, 3. Seahawks, 4. Giants, 5. 49ers, 6. Lions
AFC Seeds: 1. Patriots, 2. Bengals, 3. Colts, 4. Chiefs, 5. Texans, 6. Ravens

Round 1: Seahawks over Lions, 49ers over Giants, Colts over Ravens, Texans over Chiefs
-Lions remain too one dimensional, Giants are flawed, Colts flip the script from last year, Alex Smith out Matt Schaubs Mat Schaub in the playoffs.

Round 2: Packers over 49ers, Saints over Seahawks, Pats over Texans, Bengals over Colts
-Packers figure out the running QB thing, Saints get the home seed and that makes the difference with Seattle in an amazing game, Pats continue to own theTexans, Bengals roll over Colts because no one can cover AJ Green.

Title Games: Packers over Saints, Bengals over Patriots
-The Packers-Saints game is always entertaining, but the Packers are better overall. The Bengals have a ton of talent at key spots and will out tough the Patriots.

Superbowl: Packers over Bengals
-Yeah, Andy Dalton isn’t beating Aaron Rodgers.

Awards
MVP: Tom Brady
-You win the MVP by overcoming odds, adversity, or exceeding expectations. Brady will do his normal thing with the team winning the normal amount of games, but people will fawn over this because of what has gone on with the team in the offseason.

OPY: Drew Brees
-I think 5500 yards and 50 TDs is in play. Brees has somehow never won the MVP and could be a good candidate for that as well.

DPY: Luke Kuechly
-Luke is going to rack up an insane amount of tackles. 175 tackles, 5 picks, 5 sacks, 15 pressures, 10 deflections is in range and would earn this award.

ORY: Eddie Lacy
-Based on pure opportunity.

DRY: Kenny Vaccaro
-The Saints are going to allow a lot of completions for Kenny to clean up.

COY: Pete Carroll
-I would love Sean Payton but there is no way the NFL would let that happen. The Seahawks will have a great group effort and Pete Carroll, somehow, walks away with COY.

NFL 2012 Week 17 Predictions

Happy Holidays everyone, and congrats to those who now have fantasy titles, welcome to the club. And for those who finished in second or third (I have 1 and 3 of those finishes myself this year), congrats as well on strong seasons. Last regular season predictions, enjoy.

Power Tiers:
Super Bowl Probables: Green Bay and Denver. Nothing Changed there.
Championship Level: San Francisco and New England. Both shaky but it really seems they will be there in the end.
In Contention: Atlanta and Seattle. For different reasons, don’t know if they will be there in the end.
Wild Card:  Houston, despite what has happened to them lately. And the Giants. Just in case. Even if they are eliminated, I will probably list them here. Just to be safe. I don’t have residual issues at all.

The picks are going to be fast and quick, as many of these games don’t matter and will be hard to predict.

Week 17

-Bengals over Ravens is meaningless. I am going to guess a Baltimore win, as they kind of want the 3 seed.

Saints -5 over Panthers, 34-27
-Should be a high score here, but the Saints are hot enough to end the season with a win and return to equilibrium at .500.

Bears -3 over Lions, 27-19
-Simply a case of one team needing it and the other wanting a record. Stafford throws, oh, 48 times easily? By the way, Calvin isn’t actually getting a lot of garbage time yards, so I don’t know why people are fixating on that. What is more interesting is his propensity for getting tackled at the one yard line.

Steelers -7 over Browns, 23-6
-This pick has everything to do with how horrendous Cleveland is going to perform on offense. Thad Lewis? Ugh.

Packers -3.5 over Vikings, 37-20
-Peterson has a HUGE day but the Packers want that one seed.

Texans -3 over Colts, 19-10
-Colts are going to be the 5, and very well could see the Texans in two weeks AGAIN (I have a standing prediction with a friend that the Colts go into Baltimore and kill the Ravens if it schedules out that way). So the Texans kind of try to just technically seal up the situation and the Colts play really vanilla to not let anything get out about game plans.

TEN-JAX is also meaningless, and just should be an agreed-upon tie so that the game doesn’t have to take place. Wait, I have Justin Blackmon as a key player this week in a title game. PLAY ON!

Dolphins +10.5 over Pats, 23-24
-Something is telling me the Pats are going to punt this game to avoid Denver in the next round by purposely falling to the 4 seed. And in general, I just don’t trust teams like the Pats in the final game in situations like this. Bill will do whatever he thinks best. I’m just not going to bet on what that will be. If they try even a little they win this, but 10.5? No way.

Bills -4.5 over Jets, 21-12
-Bet on the team without a center, or the team without skill? I guess I’ll go with Buffalo. At least they are at home and have Spiller. Wait, Sanchez is playing? Okay, I’m definitively in.

Giants -7 over Eagles, 26-15
-One more chance for Vick to turn it over 4 times. Or, you know, catch fire and convince a team to make him their starter next year. (Please come to the Jets Vick. Please! I’m literally salivating).

ATL-TB is meaningless, no idea how long ATL starters play.

Cards +16.5 over 49ers, 13-26
-Always take over a two touchdown spread when a team A. Starts throwing to its best guy again and B. the opponent just got butt whooped. That duo of situations has gotta find a place in my manifesto somewhere…

Chiefs +16.5 over Broncos, 13-24
-Broncos probably win this easy, but then they start looking ahead and resting guys. NE will probably somehow be down 23-0 at this point while Brady is having a Mountain Dew on the sidelines as Ryan Mallett does his best Drew Bledsoe out there and Denver will get the hint. Plus, Jamaal Charles IS really good.

SD-OAK: I predict because neither team will be able to field a complete unit, they agree to take knees from halftime onward. And while watching from the sidelines, Ryan Mathews breaks another clavicle.

Rams +10.5 over Seahawks, 17-27
-Rams play the Hawks close, are better than most think, and this is another game where we have no idea what will matter at this point in time. If the Niners are up 24-0 on the Cards at half, Seattle may look to build the trade value of Matt Flynn.

Cowboys +3.5 over Ethnic Slurs, 29-27
-I’m taking the 3.5 because that is just too big a number in such a close contest, but I am taking Dallas for the win because the Cowboys have reverse suckered us in. they lost the game they really needed last week. Now, in Washington, against the wonderrook, we are all expecting them to choke. That is why I predict they will win.

This game, ladies and gentleman, is the holiday playoff gift to us all. Especially if it is Dallas who wins. Whoever they host, Chicago or Seattle most likely, just take in the Wild Card round, ignoring the line, and celebrate your victory as Romo or RGIII look so overwhelmed. I’m already excited.
