NFL Slants for Week 13

Checking Down:
-Houston showed some heart and fire power, but still could not limit mistakes and operate successfully in the last few minutes. Because of the division, they aren’t dead. However, it does look like they will play spoiler and “team that creates the over” for the rest of the year
-Peyton Manning is pressing, and it truly seems he does not trust his O-Line, Backs, or WRs 3-5
-Seattle-Carolina made some points late, but overall was the big pile of muck we thought it would be
-NO showed great effort again in coming back, but they should have steamrolled the Bengals. I would say they are a great candidate to go out early in a playoff game and get killed, but I am not sure who is going to do the killing in this NFC
-Chicago again found a way to win. They did a lot more things with screens, draws, and multiple running formations, showing some evolution by Mike Martz. Imagine this team with two new O-Lineman and a big time WR
-Green Bay took SF apart. Singletary should be done now, and Green Bay-Chicago week 17 is looking it might be game of the week
-MoJo is back!
-Miami, that was pathetic
-Buffalo, you tried, but now the weight of the losses is clearly affecting you. Keep your heads up
-Giants got a game where WAS completed its self destruction. Tell me we all recognize that Donovan is no longer a good QB, right?
-I’m amazed Arizona ever scores
-Atlanta showed again its heart of a champion. They grind out games with the best of them but show that ability to come back in the end and become electric. This team will be a tough out in the playoffs, and have the best home field in football
-Colts, this is just too bad. Clearly, they can still score, but they have got to find a way to run somehow. The defense also needs to be able to stop the run. A big defense tackle and some offensive lineman are in order this offseason
-Give the Cowboys some credit, they fought hard despite an only okay game from Kitna. Clearly, temporary head coaches work in the NFL

Going Deep:
-Tennessee is a sad story. This team has great talent. The most dynamic back, if not the best one. A good set of lines, and a strong back 7. The special teams is great, it has coaching continuity. Despite its record, even two weeks ago, you could claim this was a top 5 team. However, while the stats still show them to be a good team in many regards, I am not sure they would be favored versus Buffalo. This is because the Quarterback position is just that important. They don’t have one. Rusty Smith should never see the field again (I’m not sure he ever will), and Kerry Collins need to hang it up. I am not sure they can turn this around in the Fisher Era with the time it would take to develop a young QB. The worst part is they are not bad enough to have a real shot at Luck or Mallett. However, at this point I would take Landry Jones over Rusty or Collins.

-The Vikings exploded today, and I am not surprised. Now, Brett Favre was not the whole problem. Just because he was gone is not the reason they played so well. Peterson was always going to roll over the Bills no matter what. However, I saw something in the other players once Brett went out. They all kind of relaxed and asserted themselves. Sidney Rice MADE his touchdowns. Peterson rocked on his runs and earned all 3 of his scores, nothing was cheap, or set up by Favre. Perhaps the Vikings would be better off with Tavaris because at least it lets the other players stand up for themselves.
